La Academia de Artes y Ciencias de la Televisión de Estados Unidos dio a conocer la lista completa de nominados para la 70º edición de los Premios Emmy, en el marco de una ceremonia en el Wolf Theatre del Saban Media Center, en Los Ángeles. Como todos los años, hay una buena cuota de sorpresas positivas y negativas en términos de las elecciones de los que votan. Lo que más llama la atención es que, si bien Game of Thrones encabeza la contienda con un total de 22 nominaciones, Netflix destronó a HBO con la mayor cantidad de menciones. El gigante del streaming cosechó un total de 112 para superar las 108 de la cadena y, si bien no es una diferencia muy amplia, sí es una cifra que simboliza nuevamente el cambio de época. HBO lideraba las nominaciones de estos premios desde hacía más de 15 años.
No hay mucha vuelta que darle… Twin Peaks: The Return debería tener múltiples nominaciones y las dos que recibió por dirección y fotografía en el episodio 8 no son suficientes. Esos 18 capítulos fueron el evento televisivo del 2017 y sin lugar a dudas tendrían que tener su candidatura a mejor serie limitada, aunque parece que hubo mucho amor por The Assassination of Gianni Versace y algunos shows que no le pisaron los talones. Ni siquiera en términos de actuación, es un pecado que no se haya incluido a algunos de los tantos que se hicieron presentes en el gigante elenco, ni hablar de lo que fue el trabajo de Kyle MacLachlan. ¡Interpretó tres papeles! Y legó a uno de los personajes más queridos del año… Increíble.
Me sorprende la ausencia de The Good Place, que es una serie fantástica, así como también que se haya dejado afuera a BoJack Horseman. ¡Come on! Por el lado de lo positivo, es bueno que finalmente se haya excluido a Modern Family, que en forma injusta ha ocupado un lugar entre las candidatas desde hace años. Hay mucho amor merecido para Atlanta, Barry, GLOW, aunque no para Alison Brie, y entre lo que es curioso está la nominación del episodio «USS Callister» de Black Mirror. No tengo dudas de que el mejor capítulo de la cuarta temporada fue «Hang the DJ», pero eligieron ir con aquel cuyo argumento se mete con la masculinidad tóxica, a tiro con los tiempos que corren -no es un dato menor que no hayan nominado a Cristin Milioti, para el caso-.
Los premios se van a entregar el lunes 17 de septiembre, en el marco de una ceremonia conducida por Michael Che y Colin Jost. La producción del evento correrá por cuenta de Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live), quien vuelve a la tarea por primera vez desde 1988.
