La Asociación de la Prensa Extranjera de Hollywood tuvo su noche de gala este domingo 5 de enero, al entregar los Globos de Oro y dar pie a la temporada de premios del 2020. Fue una jornada con algunos premios justos, otros esperables y con más de una sorpresa de esas a las que los votantes acostumbran, como el doble triunfo de 1917 en la categoría Mejor Película y Director -por cuestiones de distribución local, todavía falta un mes para verla en cines de Argentina- o la inesperada victoria de Missing Link por encima de otros tres tanques de Disney en la categoría Animada.
Con un Ricky Gervais afilado en su monólogo de apertura -en lo que reafirmó sería su última vez al frente de esta entrega-, la noche tuvo su espacio para la reflexión y para el envío de apoyo a Australia a raíz de los devastadores incendios que allí sufren, aunque no hubo mucha referencia a asuntos más bien políticos, específicamente a Donald Trump o Irán. Sí hubo tiempo para la emoción, con homenajes a las carreras de Ellen DeGeneres y Tom Hanks.
En lo que se refiere específicamente a los premios, desde el comienzo hubo elecciones llamativas como la de Ramy Youssef como el Mejor Actor en Serie de Comedia por Ramy, una que muchos escucharán nombrar por primera vez gracias a este galardón, pero después se dio paso a una ola de criterio que llevó a esperar lo mejor del evento. Estatuillas para Succession, Brian Cox, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabag, Chernobyl, Patricia Arquette, Michelle Williams, Laura Dern, Parasite, Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood -¿estamos soñando?-, nos hicieron entusiasmar con una ceremonia que quizás dejara a todos felices y contentos. Pero la gente de la HFPA se alimenta de las lágrimas de los cinéfilos y los últimos minutos de la jornada terminaron por derrumbar dichas expectativas. De nuevo, falta ver 1917. Esperamos que esté a la altura de los títulos que superó. Por lo pronto, ya empezamos a agarrarnos la cabeza de cara a los Oscar…
